About Lauren
Raised in the Midwest, my career in media began when my family arrived in Omaha, Nebraska. My family moved to Omaha in the late 1990s when my husband made the decision to attend law school. As a stay-at-home mom to our one-year-old daughter, I found myself always researching fun things for us to do.
Having graduated from college with a degree in Journalism, the idea of starting a parenting publication soon began to surface and within six months, I had launched Omaha Family magazine. With my husband’s assistance, we made the venture a success. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing! Each month was filled with both challenges and successes but we quickly learned every aspect of producing, publishing, and distributing a monthly magazine. Those are now some of my fondest memories. Within a few years, we become the most widely distributed monthly magazine in the greater Omaha metropolitan area. The years that followed were busy ones. In addition to publishing monthly issues of Omaha Family, we produced an Annual College Guide, Teacher’s Guide, and Living Well 50+ magazine.
After twenty years of providing a monthly print/online resource for local families, we made the decision to sell the magazine to another local parenting site. Our daughter was in her senior year of college and I was looking for a new opportunity to put my skills in sales/publicity to work. The timing was perfect!
Hathaway Creative was initially developed as a publicity agency having a specific focus on promoting children’s products/services to the media. Having spent so many years in the parenting market working with small business owners, the only real learning curve was developing relationships with media contacts across the U.S. It was an exciting time as I found myself learning new things about the world of publicity every single day. One of my greatest moments was hearing from Oprah Magazine that one of my clients had made that year’s renowned holiday issue!
Thanks to the internet, the following six years have been spent working remotely with a group of wonderful clients scattered across the world. Over the years, I have obtained top placements/coverage in many outlets with some of the highlights being the New York Times, Oprah, USA Today, MSN.com, PARENTS, Huffington Post, PopSugar, Real Simple, Family Circle, Health, and the coveted Today Show.
Three years ago, I began the incredible experience of freelancing with one of the top book publicity firms in the country. Again, my days were filled with the challenges of learning about an entirely new industry. Opportunities have arisen in the past few years to represent authors under Hathaway Creative and I couldn’t be more excited to work with both published and self-published authors in sharing their books with the world.
So now you know a little more about me. If you have a book that you are wanting to announce to the world, give me a call. I’d love to hear more about your story.
